A Tcl Binding for HLA/RTI
Author: William H. Duquette
Abstract
HLA/RTI is a "High Level Architecture" with accompanying "Run-Time
Infrastructure" designed by the U.S. Department of Defense to support
the creation of networks (called federations) of cooperating simulation
applications (called federates). The RTI software layer provides
basic inter-task messaging, as well as management of simulated time
across federates. RTI APIs are commercially available for C++ and
Java. The paper presents two Tcl APIs, a low-level binding to the C++
API which adheres to HLA/RTI naming conventions, and a higher-level
API built on top of it which is intended for actual use. The paper
includes an introduction to HLA/RTI, but the main focus is on the
design and implementation of the two APIs, which were developed as
part of an HLA/RTI federate called the Joint Non-kinetic Effects Model
(JNEM).
